William Atherton (born July 30, 1947 in Orange, Connecticut), is an American actor. He is probably best known for his role as the unscrupulous media whore Richard "Dick" Thornburg in the Academy Award-nominated Die Hard and Die Hard 2. In addition, he is also known for his roles in the Steven Spielberg-directed film The Sugarland Express, the Academy Award-nominated blockbuster Ghostbusters and the Academy Award-nominated dark period drama The Day of the Locust.
