Vernee Christel Watson-Johnson (born January 14, 1954 in Trenton, New Jersey) is an American actress, author, and acting coach. One of her best-known roles was on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Viola "Vy" Smith, the mother of Will Smith's character.
