I hope that last edit cleared it up...rambled on a bit there with the whole powers thing. After all, it's only Captain Atom...still, if it seems like I left something ELSE iffy in there, could you point it out? Mcvmai

Metahuman?[]

Could Cap be considered a Metahuman? He fits the profile in that he was born human and changed into a super-being, but is he technically "human" anymore (biologically speaking)? He could be considered an energy being, but do we even have a category for something like that? Thoughts? Damaijin (talk) 03:17, July 21, 2013 (UTC)

Metahuman is a term straight from DC Comics. It's used to describe anyone with superpowers of any kind, as a way of being able to lump people like Captain Atom and Superman (not even actually human) into the same category as folks like Cyborg and Zatanna (not technically superhumans, but still possessing "powers").--OzzMan (talk) 06:08, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
Not true.
In-universe, the term Metahuman is ill-defined. We really shouldn't use it that much.
In DC Comics, metahumans are those supers who derive their powers from an activated meta-gene, not "born human and changed into a super-being", and definitely not "everyone with superpowers".
Captain Atom, for example, gained his powers from being bonded to an alien metal and being bombarded with atomic energy, and is therefore not a metahuman. But in the show, his powers are different, and his origin is unexplained, so we don't know if he's metahuman or not. --Tupka217 06:12, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
No, metahuman is definitely just a catchall term in DC Comics. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman are all referred to as metahumans, despite not being human and therefore not having the metagene. To a further point, metahuman is used within the DCAU in reference to the Bang Babies, powered individuals not given their abilities by metagenes whatsoever.--OzzMan (talk) 06:36, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
That's what I said: ill-defined in the DCAU. But it's not a catch-all term. It is, like Mutants in Marvel, very specific (and very similar). It does not include aliens like Supes and J'onn, nor the divinely empowered like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel. Superman being classified as Metahuman would be a writer error. --Tupka217 06:42, July 21, 2013 (UTC)
