Dr. Stephanie Lake was among the team of scientists working for Derek Powers, seeking a cure for his genetic mutation.
History[]
Stephanie Lake had just been recently hired to Wayne-Powers when she boldly interpolated Powers with a groundbreaking suggestion of using Powers' baseline DNA to build a new body, into which they would transfer his neuro-patterns. However, since Dr. Lake had never put that theory into practice, she decided to test it on someone who also had systemically damaged DNA. She then turned to Mr. Freeze, whose human remains were being kept in the laboratory. She convinced Freeze to undergo the cloning process, telling him that someone with a brilliant mind as his should be living a normal life again in a rejuvenated body.
The procedure was successful at first, as Fries awoken in a new healthy body. Once again living life as Victor Fries, he was pleased to go about the world without a need for a containment suit and was at peace with the loss of his wife, even proposed a trust fund in her name to make amends for his past misdeeds as Mr. Freeze. He even formed a relationship with Dr. Lake.

However, Fries' new body soon started to revert to its prior state, becoming intolerant to heat. Dr. Lake informed Powers on the phone that Fries' body was reverting, and speculated that the cause was a mnemonic agent in his DNA. Powers observed that the only way to be certain was by biopsy Fries' organs at that stage in order to confirm this and find a way around the problem. Immediately taking this as a suggestion, Dr. Lake locked Fries in a room and raised its temperature in an attempt to knock him unconscious as she apathetically disregarded his pleas to be let out. However, Fries gathered enough strength to break his way out of the lab by throwing the gurney at the glass and emerging angrily as Mr. Freeze once more before escaping.
Right about when Dr. Lake smugly reassured Derek Powers that Mr. Freeze wouldn't come back due to the heatwave, Freeze laid siege on the building while donning a new containment suit. Dr. Lake begged Freeze to spare them, but when Powers tried to flee, Freeze froze him anyway. Dr. Lake claimed she and Powers were only trying to help him, to which Freeze replied quoting what she had said before: "Remember there might be some momentary discomfort" and then blasted her with a freezing beam that caused her to scream in agony as she was frozen.
