The Special Crimes Unit or SCU was a division of the Metropolis Police Department. This division was led by Inspectors Dan Turpin and Maggie Sawyer. The unit was based in downtown Metropolis in the Police Department's offices. Its purpose was to deal with threats to the public's safety that were outside what could be considered normal: they coped with what other officers couldn't by virtue of their training, experience and resources. Examples of the unique situations they have handled include the invasion of Darkseid and his forces, the repeated appearances of Bizarro, a flawed clone of Superman, and assisting Batman in dealing with the Joker when he moved his operations to Metropolis. The SCU has also been responsible for other special assignments, including transporting money that was seized during their raid.
