The Science Council was a governing body on the planet Krypton, composed of the planet's esteemed scientists and intellectuals.
History[]
The Science Council played a significant role in governance and overseeing scientific and technological advancements on Krypton. It was responsible for addressing challenges facing the planet and making crucial decisions for its future. The Council included such figures in Kryptonian science as Jor-El and Sul-Van, each contributing their expertise in various fields.
As Krypton's society was highly advanced technologically, with various sophisticated systems in place, they were also skilled in artificial intelligence studies. At some point, one such machine called Brainiac was created, ultimately becoming the centralized AI system of the planet. As a vast source of all Kryptonian knowledge, Brainiac was invaluable to the Council in decision-making. However, their "blind dependence" on him, as Jor-El pointed out, eventually turned into a global catastrophe.
When Jor-El, through his research, learned about the cause of the continued earthquakes that had struck the planet's surface, he reported his finding to the Council. The Council, meanwhile, put all their trust in Brainiac, who stated that despite Jor-El's hard work, he was delusional about the impending destruction of Krypton. While angered at Brainiac's apparent lie, Jor-El nonetheless kept urging the Council to act immediately, voicing his evacuation plan: to teleport everyone on Krypton to the Phantom Zone, a penal dimension for convicted criminals, and then send one person to another planet where they could release all the others to safety. The Council, considering it absurd, hastily left the hall, one member even calling Jor-El "mad." Meanwhile, Brainiac, aware of Krypton's ultimate fate, was already downloading himself into one of Krypton's satellites to escape. Eventually, all members of the Council, along with the planet's inhabitants, perished as Krypton exploded.
