After an all out gang brawl erupted at the Dakota dock, Police arrived and warned everyone to cease fighting and to remain where they were. Everybody scattered and ignored warnings, forcing the Police to fire down a canister of tear gas. The Quantum Vapor—commonly referred to as Bang Baby gas—was the mutagenic gas that was responsible for the mutations of hundreds of people in Dakota. It was produced by Alva Industries.

History

After an all out gang brawl erupted at the Dakota dock, Police arrived and warned everyone to cease fighting and to remain where they were. Everybody scattered and ignored warnings, forcing the Police to fire down a canister of tear gas. However, the canister dropped down right next to multiple large containers of Edwin Alva's Quantum Vapor, causing an explosion and the release of a cloud of purple gas. Everybody who breathed it in began coughing, then exhibiting strange physical reactions. The incident was dubbed the Big Bang, with those who survived obtaining metahuman powers. Following the Big Bang, the mayor attempted to keep the attention off Alva Industries due to the company's importance to Dakota, hiding from the public the fact that Alva was responsible.

Background information

The Quantum Vapor—so named in "Junior"—is based on Quantum Juice of Milestone Media comics. In order to fight gang violence, Alva and the mayor had ordered to spike tear gas with a radioactive tracer in the hope that it would track gang members. The side effects of said tracer were it killed a majority of the people involved in the Big Bang, although many survived and were given metahuman powers.
