Nick was a young boy, an acquaintance of fellow Gotham children, Matt and Carrie. One night, when the three were telling their own stories about how they viewed Batman, Nick related that he had heard that the Batman wasn't human at all, but rather, "a giant pterodactyl beast, with big fangs and talons". Needless to say, his friends felt Nick was in need of - in Carrie's words - "a reality check".
