Green Lantern, Supergirl, and Green Arrow view members of the Legion.

The Legion of Super-Heroes was an organization of super-powered teenagers from many worlds, based in the city of Metropolis on the planet Earth in the late 30th and early 31st centuries. The Legionnaires were inspired to band together by the legendary exploits of Superman in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Each member of the Legion was issued a Legion Flight Ring for personal transportation.

History

In 2979, the Legion learned that the malevolent artificial intelligence known as Brainiac — who had survived since the 20th century — had travelled back in time in an attempt to destroy young Clark Kent before he adopted the identity of Superman. Three Legionnaires — Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Chameleon Boy — followed Brainiac back. In 20th century Smallville, the Legionnaires worked with young Clark and managed to defeat Brainiac. Before the Legionnaires returned to their own era, Saturn Girl used her telepathic abilities to erase Clark's memories of the encounter, thus preventing any inadvertent contamination of history.[1]

Later, possibly during the 2980s, the Fatal Five used psionic mind control technology against the Legion and forced many of its members to launch an attack against the capital of the United Planets. In a desperate move, Legionnaires Brainiac 5 and Bouncing Boy took three heroes from the early 21st centuryGreen Arrow, Green Lantern, and Supergirl — and with their help they were able to defeat the Fatal Five and save the UP and the Legion. Supergirl remained with the Legion and Green Arrow and Green Lantern were returned to their rightful place in history.[2]

Background Information

In "Far From Home" the time period is incorrectly stated to be in the 31st century. This would have been impossible, since in "New Kids in Town" the year was 2979, and the Legion were teenagers, and in "Far From Home" they appeared about the same age. Even Dwayne McDuffie has admited that this was a mistake.
