Kryptonite poisoning was a fatal disease caused by prolonged exposure to Kryptonite radiation.
Every owner of the Laughing Dragon died prematurely from this condition after having it for an unspecified amount of time.
Afflicted with Kryptonite-induced cancer, Lex Luthor required the use of a special vest (which was also part of a suit) designed by the Ultra-Humanite to inhibit the process and buy Lex some more time. Unknown to Luthor (at the time), Brainiac, who was inside him, cured him of his cancer.
