However, he has achieved widespread notoriety for his acclaimed role on the first seven seasons of Smallville as Lionel Luthor, the crooked millionaire industrialist who teaches his son Lex the harsh life lessons that will eventually turn the boy into the world's most dangerous criminal.
He has also appeared as Dr. Jason Woodrue in the film Batman & Robin, thus making him one of only five actors to appear in both Batman: The Animated Series and one of the live-action movies (the others being Rene Auberjonois, Ed Begley, Jr., Senator Patrick Leahy and Vincent Schiavelli).
