Background information[]

  • George Newbern initially replaced Tim Daly for the part of Superman on Justice League, as the latter had been unavailable due to headlining "The Fugitive" (a remake of the 1960's TV series). Per Bruce Timm, Newbern had the same "nice guy Superman" quality voice that Daly had, while also being a good fit "continuity wise" without sounding like an exact copy.[1]Andrea Romano remarked that casting Superman was always difficult, but she was impressed with Newbern's acting, while noting he sounded a lot like the previous Superman voice.[2] Both Newbern and Daly have voiced Superman in several DC projects outside the DCAU.
  • Apart from Superman, Newbern is also notable for providing the voice of the Final Fantasy VII main antagonist Sephiroth in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and the Kingdom Hearts series.
  • Newbern has reprised his role as Superman in other DC projects including The Batman, the DC Showcase Short Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam (along with Jerry O'Connell as Captain Marvel), the DC animated film Superman vs. The Elite, and the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us (alongside Kevin Conroy as Batman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Adam Baldwin as Hal Jordan, Phil LaMarr as John Stewart, and others).
