Spanish

discussion transplanted from Talk:Deimos

If you are interested in translating some of our articles into Spanish, I think that would be great and something worth exploring. It is my opinion that we'd need to find an admin who is fluent in both English and Spanish to oversee the Spanish content.
Since our Manual of Style doesn't speak of grammar and language, the same concepts in the Manual of Style would apply to any other language. I believe it is an assumed guideline that correct grammar, spelling and proper language be used, regardless of the language in question. --BoneGnawer 21:46, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I understand Spanish very well. I can't write it per se, because I didn't study it, but I can read and understand it as well as I do English. ― Thailog 22:18, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Understanding and mastery are a bit different. I can read Spanish too, but I wouldn't attempt to place myself in an editorial position over Spanish writers. We may have to wait until we can nominate an admin who is a native speaker or has a high level of fluency. This person would also have to have fair English skills so he or she could participate in discussions amongst the existing admins. --BoneGnawer 19:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I meant that I can understand Spanish to a point of recognizing quality writing; but yeah, I wouldn't be able to improve the articles per se, and I guess that was what you were going for... I suppose we'll have to wait for someone like you described, but unfortunately, we have few English editors as it is ― I don't foresee many foreign ones turning up... ― Thailog 19:46, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
