"The blistering babe from Brazil!"
Roulette[1]

Fire was a member of the expanded Justice League after the Thanagarian invasion, and she was usually seen accompanied by her friend Ice. Fire could project flame bolts and actually turn herself into a being of green fire, whereupon she could fly. Fire can also fly outside her flame-form, suggesting this is a power independent from her pyrokinesis.

History[]

Fire took part in several League missions; she integrated the second line of defense against Amazo, fought Mordru, the Dark Heart mechanical spiders, and the army of Ultimen that raided the Watchtower. She was very respectful of the senior members and hesitated in contradicting them.

Flash and Fire

Fire also escorted Shayera and the Flash to the Blackhawk Island. In this mission, Fire showed some interest in the Flash, with whom she exchanged some mutual flirting. Fire was a rather competent combatant, and she single-handedly managed to negate Doctor Polaris' magnetic power by overheating him.

Fire was also one of Roulette's unwitting contenders in her "Meta-Brawl: Glamour Slam". She fought opposite Black Canary and had the upper hand for a while, even managing to burn her, but was effectively overwhelmed by her adversary's sonic scream and nearly died from her injuries.

Fire later fought alongside the League and the Legion of Doom during Darkseid's latest invasion of Earth. After Darkseid and Lex Luthor's disappearance, Fire was among the Leaguers in pursuit of the Legion of Doom.

Powers and abilities[]

Fire's main superpower was pyrokinesis. Additionally, she could fly and change into a being composed of living, green fire without injuring herself.

Background information[]

  • In the comics, Fire first appeared in Super Friends #25 (1979) and was created by E. Nelson Bridwell and Ramona Fradon. Beatriz Bonilla da Costa was the President of Wayne Enterprises' Brazilian Branch and acquired her powers through mysticism. After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, her origins were significantly changed. First appearing in Infinity Inc. #32 (1986), 'Bea' was a model turned secret agent for the Brazilian government. During one of her missions, she was exposed to green Pyroplasm that gave her the power to breathe green flames and dyed her hair green. She was later exposed to an alien "metagene bomb" that augmented her pyrokinesis. Beatriz could now become living flame, which enabled her to fly and shoot fire blasts. She joined the Global Guardians under the name of "Green Fury" and later "Green Flame", until she finally joined the Justice League as 'Fire'.
  • She was also the partner and roommate of fellow League member, Ice.
