One of Dr. McDonald's interns, Eddie Felson, stole the Time Gauntlet. McDonald found out, and threatened to turn the security video of the theft over to the police if Eddie did not respond within the hour.
Eddie did not comply; instead, he sabotaged Dr. McDonald's plane and stole the tape. Static and Gear saved the doctor and his pilot from a potential crash. After landing on Woodward Avenue, he told them of the Time Gauntlet, giving Gear the opportunity to develop their own time manipulation device.
