Bugs were a species native to New Genesis. They lived on the surface in hives far below the New Gods in the city. The New Gods treated the Bugs as second-class citizens, and ignored them as "unimportant". Despite the inferior status of the Bugs, they were not oppressed as were their counterparts on Apokolips, the Lowlies. Overall, the attitude of New Gods was olympian in manner, or that of benign neglect where the Bugs were generally left alone and permitted their own liberty.
