Static is a Bang Baby
A Bang Baby is a metahuman whose powers were triggered by exposure to the Quantum Vapor developed by Alva Industries.
History[]
An explosion at the Dakota docks dispersed the Quantum Vapor gas. This event and the mass mutations that resulted from it are referred to as the "Big Bang". Not until several years later were most of these Bang Babies involuntarily cured when the governor gave Dr. Todd permission to disperse a cure in Dakota's air. Before that, D-Struct, Nails, Aquamaria and possibly others as well had agreed to serve as test subjects in reversing their mutations. Following the disappearance of their powers, Ebon and Hotstreak stole a canister of Quantum Vapor in the hope that they could restore their lost powers. They succeeded, but fused together into a monster as a result of inhaling too much of the gas. Static and Gear, who also regained their powers thanks to the stolen vapor, seemingly destroyed the fused metahumans, and afterwards Gear created his own batch of vapor so that he and Static could continue fighting crime. It is unknown if any other Bang Babies ever regained their powers.
