Abin Sur was a member of the Green Lantern Corps.
History[]
One of the Lanterns of Sector 2814, Abin Sur was mortally wounded when his spaceship crashed just outside Metropolis. Unable to pass on his power ring, he sent it to search for a worthy successor. When Superman arrived in his spaceship, he tried to get help, but Abin Sur stops him and said that it was too late. He told Superman to help "Green Lantern" and dies.
Background information[]
In the DC Comics, Abin Sur of Ungara was the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 and the predecessor of Hal Jordan. The reason that he used a spaceship instead of his ring for interstellar travel was because Qull of the Five Inversions had told him that his ring would fail him at a critical moment, so he took to using a ship to conserve energy. Ultimately, however, this caused his death.
As opposed to the enemy situation portrayed here, Sinestro and Abin Sur were close friends, with Sinestro saying that Abin Sur was one of two Green Lanterns he considered a friend instead of a colleague, the other being Hal Jordan. Sinestro was also married to Abin's sister, Arin Sur.
