SmxleL!fe Terry was their best chance of stopping the new Joker and shutting him out nearly led to Bruce, Terry and Dana's deaths, not to mention the countless people Joker would have killed. Also, since Bruce and Barbara accepted Terry as Batman early in the series, you would have assumed that they would have moved past being irrationally overprotective(which felt forced), as it did nothing but break apart the Bat-family, both with Terry and Tim.
